Post-Punk / New Wave from New Jersey

Demmers emerged from the grit and gloom of northern New Jersey, channeling post-punk’s atmospheric pull through sparse lines and resonant space. Their music has always felt physical and directional, less about arrival than about what changes while you’re already in motion.

Their new work, Forced Perspective, unfolds like driving through industrial stretches at night. With Demmers, the road is familiar, but distance keeps shifting. Streetlights pass in steady intervals, then suddenly feel closer or farther apart. Nothing on the dashboard has changed, yet your sense of speed and scale keeps adjusting. The songs move the same way, using repetition and restraint to subtly alter how each moment is perceived.

There’s no point where that tension resolves. The frame keeps adjusting, and meaning depends on how close you stay to it. What you hear is shaped as much by position as by sound.

That sense carries into physical form, pressed on cassette in a limited European run.
